My friend, client and colleague, Magalog Guy Mike Klassen, hit a home run with a major content marketing success, which gained him a speaking engagement in Australia.
It all started with a download of his free book, Increase Sales & Build Deeper Connections: Maximizing Your Content to Boost Sales and Generate Better-Quality Leads.
I was prompted to share his content marketing success story with you. It’s a great one that I hope inspires you to expand your content marketing efforts.
Here’s what happened, in Mike’s own words.
He [a marketing expert in Australia] did a search on magalog (or some similar search), found my site and downloaded the book. He was in the process of putting together his own magalog.
Now here's where it gets interesting...
Since I have the autoresponder setup, I try not to add to the e-mails they're getting when they subscribe. But I saw he was from Australia which is where my young son would like to live. As a family we had talked about going on vacation in late 2011.
Since he signed up for the book from his business address, I went to his site and saw what he was involved with, especially in the area of working with youth which I have done in different capacities in the past.
So I sent him a note to say hello, mention that we were thinking of visiting his country, and that I admired his work with youth.
There was no sales component to the e-mail, just a sincere hello.
He took it from there and called me the next day. From that call, he invited me to do the magalog webinar that I did for his group last July.
So here's the interesting thing to ponder... would I be speaking in Australia next month if I hadn't sent him that personal e-mail and just let the autoresponder handle things?
I don't believe in accidents, so things happened just the way they were supposed to.
Thank you for allowing me to share our private email, Mike.
It just shows the power of content marketing, the internet and caring enough to reach out and connect with someone, human being to human being.
I’ll look forward to your Webinar on content marketing when you return from Australia.
